Buyer Reviews

Customer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Hutch is top part only--Misleading
This product is misleading as advertised. It came up in a search for desks. However, it only includes the top part (the shelving), not the desk. To get that whole setup, it's $152.

This might be a decent product...if I had a desk...

The picture should show the HUTCH SECTION ONLY and not the whole thing unless the product includes the desk.

Customer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - don't order any big ticket merchandise
DISCUSSING THEY SEND ME 2 TOPS OF THE DESK AND THEY SAID THEY ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO CORRECT IT TWICE SO NOW I HAVE TO DESK TOPS BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD NOT READ OR UNDERSTAND THE ORDER SO IF ANYONE NEEDS A DESKTOP I HAVE TWO. I AM VERY UNDERSET AND I THINK I WILL TAKE A YEAR BREAK FROM ORDERING FROM THEM BY THAT TIME SOMEONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO READ

Customer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Buyer Beware!
We didn't even end up buying this because we thought this was a desk by looking at the picture. Apparently it is just the shelves. The only way we figured this out was through another customer review. I see this as false advertising and they should be more careful about the way the describe their products.

Customer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice piece, difficult to assemble, not great in the end.
In the end, I like the hutch okay, and it goes well with the matching desk. However it was quite a bear to assemble. As a college student, a renter, and now a teacher, I've assembled quite a few pieces of flat pack furniture, since that's what I can afford. This was a challenge, however, as it requires you to hold too many pieces in an awkward, unbalanced way, while you thread some screws up from the bottom. It required 3 of us to hold all the shelves in place in order to thread the first screws. (And the piece didn't end up quite square, so one of the shelves didn't fit well.) As a comparison, I've assembled other flat-pack furniture (larger pieces) either entirely solo or with 1 assistant. Additionally, the screw holes don't line up very well and they were missing entirely on one of the end pieces.

Anyway, as a piece it's nice in the end, if a bit on the small size, good number of shelves. It's real wood (not particle board) and both lightweight and sturdy. But, if you purchase, be prepared for it to take a bit longer than you expect and have some extra tools around (a drill would be quite useful) around to help. The box claims that you need a Phillip's head screwdriver, and all other tool are included. Not true.

EDIT: Now that I've used the desk/hutch for a month or two, it's apparent how small the thing really is. The shelves are almost too small to hold anything useful. They are big enough for a CD, and the right width to put paper & notebooks down horizontally, but no book ever printed can fit on one, nor knick-knacks or other things that go on a desk. I have a flat panel monitor (so thin to begin with, and it's only 17" so it's on the small side) which barely fits in the alcove. Measure carefully before committing on this one!

Alienware's flagship gaming laptop, the Area-51 m9750, has plenty of appeal for high-end gamers, but the alien head aesthetic seems dated, and newer components are right around the corner.
